Small Balloon Stack in Partial Frame, 2013
Plaster, Wood and Paint
The balloon came about because I wanted to express what the burdens of confinement and labeling do to us as individuals and subsequently to our society. The toxicity of narrow mindedness further constricts our ability to be who we truly are.
What lies outside of us are the decades of family, societal and historic norms telling us who we should be. We spend lifetimes and generations peeling back the layers. If we are brave, strong and persistent we can open and love what we find in ourselves and allow that freedom in others.
